When to use the future tense
The futur simple says what will happen. In conversation “aller + infinitive” (je vais partir) is just as common for the near future.
How it is formed
Add ai, as, a, ons, ez, ont to the infinitive (dropping the final -e of -re verbs). Irregular verbs change only the stem: ser- (être), aur- (avoir), ir- (aller), fer- (faire), pourr-, voudr-, viendr-, verr-.
Dire is regular here, so it is a good model for other verbs of the same class.
Dire in a sentence
- Elle dit toujours la vérité.She always tells the truth.
- Nous avons dit bonjour à tout le monde. We said hello to everyone.
Irregular; 'vous dites' is an exception to the usual -ez pattern.
