ending regular · irr breaks the pattern · tap a form to hear it
When to use the future tense
The simple future (futuro simple) says what will happen, and also expresses a guess about the present: “¿Dónde estará Ana?” (I wonder where Ana is). In speech, ir a + infinitive is often used instead.
How it is formed
Add é, ás, á, emos, éis, án to the whole infinitive. Irregular verbs change only the stem (tendr-, har-, dir-, podr-, querr-, sabr-, saldr-, pondr-, vendr-), never the endings.
Gustar is regular here, so it is a good model for other verbs of the same class.
Gustar in a sentence
- Me gusta el chocolate.I like chocolate.
- Nos gustaron las películas. We liked the movies.
Works like 'to please'; verb agrees with the thing liked, not the person.
