When to use the future tense
The simple future (futuro simple) says what will happen, and also expresses a guess about the present: “¿Dónde estará Ana?” (I wonder where Ana is). In speech, ir a + infinitive is often used instead.
How it is formed
Add é, ás, á, emos, éis, án to the whole infinitive. Irregular verbs change only the stem (tendr-, har-, dir-, podr-, querr-, sabr-, saldr-, pondr-, vendr-), never the endings.
Servir is regular here, so it is a good model for other verbs of the same class.
Servir in a sentence
- El camarero sirve la comida. The waiter serves the food.
- Este cuchillo no sirve para nada. This knife is useless.
Stem-changing e→i in present/preterite (sirvo, sirvió); often + 'para'.
