When to use the future tense
The simple future (futuro simple) says what will happen, and also expresses a guess about the present: “¿Dónde estará Ana?” (I wonder where Ana is). In speech, ir a + infinitive is often used instead.
How it is formed
Add é, ás, á, emos, éis, án to the whole infinitive. Irregular verbs change only the stem (tendr-, har-, dir-, podr-, querr-, sabr-, saldr-, pondr-, vendr-), never the endings.
Volver is regular here, so it is a good model for other verbs of the same class.
Volver in a sentence
- Vuelvo a casa temprano hoy.I'm returning home early today.
- Ya han vuelto de vacaciones. They have already returned from vacation.
o→ue stem change; irregular past participle: vuelto.
